How to get a lasting Spray tan
Achieve a Lasting Spray Tan: Your Ultimate Guide
Getting a spray tan is a fantastic way to achieve that sun-kissed glow without the harmful UV rays. However, to make the most of your spray tan, it's essential to follow the right pre- and post-tan protocols. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you achieve a lasting and flawless tan.
Before Your Spray Tan
1. Exfoliate Thoroughly:
Preparation is key to a lasting spray tan. Exfoliate your skin 24 hours before your appointment using a gentle scrub or exfoliating mitt. This removes dead skin cells and creates a smooth canvas for the tan to adhere to, ensuring an even application. Our favorite exfoliator is the Silk Scrub by Fur.
2. Wax (or shave):
If you shave or wax, do so at least 24 hours before your spray tan. Shaving or waxing too close to your appointment can leave your skin sensitive, and the spray tan solution may settle into pores, causing an uneven finish.
3. Avoid Moisturizers and Deodorants:
On the day of your appointment, avoid applying any moisturizers, deodorants, perfumes, or oils. These products can create barriers on your skin and prevent the tan from developing evenly.
4. Wear Loose, Dark Clothing:
After your tan, you'll want to wear loose, dark clothing to avoid any staining and to prevent the tan from rubbing off on tight fabrics.
After Your Spray Tan
1. Wait to Shower:
Allow the spray tan to develop for at least 8 hours before taking your first shower. During this time, avoid any activities that might cause you to sweat, as this can affect the development of the tan.
2. Gentle Cleansing:
When you do shower, use lukewarm water and a mild, sulfate-free body wash. Hot water and harsh soaps can strip the tan and cause it to fade more quickly. Our favorite body wash is the Fur All Body Wash. Pat your skin dry with a towel instead of rubbing it.
3. Moisturize Daily:
Hydration is crucial for maintaining your tan. Apply a moisturizer daily to keep your skin soft and supple. Opt for a moisturizer that is fragrance-free and formulated for post-tan care to avoid any ingredients that might accelerate the fading process. If you already have Fur Oil for your waxing routine, it’s perfect for all over hydration!
4. Avoid Exfoliating:
Hold off on exfoliating until you are ready for your next spray tan. Exfoliating can remove the tan prematurely. Also, avoid using any exfoliating products or tools like loofahs and body scrubs.
5. Stay Away from Chlorine and Ocean Water:
Chlorinated water, such as in swimming pools and hot tubs, can quickly fade your spray tan. Ocean water can also affect your tan due to its high salt content, which can be drying to the skin and cause the tan to fade faster. If you do go swimming, make sure to rinse off and moisturize immediately afterward.
6. Wear Sunscreen:
Even though you have a tan, your skin still needs protection from the sun’s harmful rays. Always apply sunscreen when you’re outdoors to protect your skin and your tan.
By following these pre- and post-tan protocols, you can enjoy a beautiful, lasting spray tan that looks natural and even. Remember, the key to a long-lasting tan is proper preparation and consistent aftercare. Happy tanning!
