Preparing for your first wax

Waxing can be an intimidating experience from the pain level to the vulnerability. We want all of our clients to come in comfortable & fully prepared for what to expect with their first wax.

First, let’s talk about the benefits of waxing to help get you amped up for your first appointment. After your first appointment you should walk out feeling smooth as ever. Unlike shaving, you don’t have to worry about the razor burn or harsh stubble being left behind. As you continue to come in for your regular waxing appointments, you’ll notice your hair starting to grow back more sparce & much thinner making each appointment easier than the last.

Secondly, let’s touch on some ways you can prep yourself for your appointment to help the process go easier. The length of your hair is a huge proponent to pain levels & how smooth you’ll be after. We recommend clients allow their hair to grow out at least 1/4 of an inch (usually about the length of a grain of rice) to make sure the hair is long enough for the wax to adhere to. This length is typically accomplished 2 weeks post shave or 4 weeks post waxing. Hair can be longer than this for appointments as well, however that can occasionally lead to slightly more pain & can add time to your appointment, as your esthetician will have to work in small sections to avoid breaking any hair. It is also important to shower & gently exfoliate prior to coming in. Gently exfoliation can be done with a sugar scrub, loofah, or using our favorite Fur products. We recommend this to help buff away any dead skin, making it easier for our wax to grip onto your hairs. It also is a good practice to help prevent ingorwn hairs. Post exfoliating we also recommend moisturizing with your favorite moisturizer or hair oil to help keep the skin & hair soft. The softer the hair the less likely it is to break during a waxing service.

Now that your skin & hair are prepped to be waxed we can discuss some other few tricks to help ease the pain of a first time wax. Avoiding caffeine & drinking plenty of water will help keep your skin & hydrated making it easier for the hairs to just glide right out. You can also take an anti-inflammatory about 30 minutes before your appointment to help reduce any redness that may come along after your service. It is also wise to wear loose fitted clothing to avoid any excessive rubbing or irritation.

Lastly, I will touch on what it will be like in the treatment room with your esthetician. We get LOTS of clients nervous to be in a vulnerable and intimate setting with their esthetician & that is totally normal. However, rest assured that your esthetician does this all day everyday, none of it is new or shocking to her. If you are anxious about being in this setting consider rescheduling with the same waxpert each appointment to help with your comfort. While in the room your esthetician is going to do everything she can to help you feel comfortable. She’ll explain the whole process from start to finish & answer any questions you may having before, during, or after your service.

Waxing doesn’t have to be a scary & overly vulnerable process, at Wax Shack we do everything we can to make it a luxury service you’ll look forward to each month.
